818 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 13.

Section 6, line 4, strike out "Superintendent," and insert
Commissioner, and after "direct" add and the State Board
shall have power to appoint a Book Clerk, if necessary, to-
assist the Secretary in the discharge of said duties, at a sal-
ary not exceeding $800.

Which were severally read and adopted.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendments :

Title 3, chapter 1, line 1, strike out "the President of the
several," and insert "each;" line 2, after "Commissioners,"
insert to appoint a County Examiner, who shall be a practi-
cal teacher, and whose duty it shall be ; line 5, after "quali-
fied," insert "under the sanction of the said Board," and
strike out "they" and insert such persons ;" line 7, after
"applicant," strike out the remainder of the section.

Section 2, line 1, strike out "Superintendent," and insert
Examiner ; lines 2 and 3, strike out "said County Superin-
tendent," and insert, Board of County School Commissioners ;
line 3, strike out "his," and insert "their ;" lines 4 and 5,
strike out "and the Central Board of Examiners shall keep
a book in the same name, as."

Section 5, line 1, strike out "Superintendent" and insert
"Examiner;" line 2, before "other," insert such; lines 2
and 3, strike out "when required by any," and insert "as
said ;" line 3, strike out "of Trustees," and insert may di-
rect.

Page 37, section 6, strike out section 6.

Which were severally read and adopted.

Mr. Chapman submitted the following amendment:

Section 3, line 2, strike out the word "nineteen," and in-
sert twenty-one; strikeout the word "seventeen," and in-
sert the word nineteen.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendment:

Chapter 2, section 3, line 2, strike out "President," and
insert Principal, and strike out the words "the Professors
to," and insert the words, who shall.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Lowe moved that the House do now adjourn until
to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock.

Decided in the negative.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendments :

Sec. 5, lines 9 and 10, strike out the word " superintend-
ent," and insert the word examiner.
