Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendment:

Chapter 10, section 1, line 5, after the word "admitted,"
add, and provided also that the Trustees shall have power, in
the exercise of a sound judgment, in view of all the circum-
stances, to admit any pupil over eighteen years of age.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Keech submitted the following amendment:

Section 2, line 2, strike out the words " suspended from
school," and insert the words "properly chastised."

Which was rejected.

Mr. Silver moved that the House do now adjourn until to-
morrow morning at eleven o'clock.

Decided in the negative.

Mr. Morse moved that the House do now adjourn until to-
morrow morning at ten o'clock.

Mr. Chaisty submitted the following amendment:

Section 1, after the word "law," in line 5, add the words,
provided that said books shall contain nothing of a sectarian
character calculated to exclude from said schools the child of
any religious denomination.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Legg submitted the following amendment:
Section 1, chapter 2, after the word "law," on the 5th
line, insert, none of which are to be such as would have a
probable tendency to influence the minds of pupils, for or
against any religious denomination or political party.

Mr. Wentz submitted the following amendments :

Chapter 11, section 2, line 3, strikeout "Superintendent,"
and insert Commissioner ; line 4, strike out "County Super-
intendent," and insert Board of County School Commission-
ers.

Section 3, lines 2 and 3, strike out "Superintendent," and
insert Commissioner.

Section 4, line 3, strike out "Superintendent," and insert
Commissioner ; line 6, strike out "Superintendent," and in-
sert Commissioner.
