Mr. Stewart, of Dorchester, submitted the following amend-
ment to the amendment:

And shall whip them when they misbehave, and keep
them in when they miss their lessons.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Latrobe submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:

Strike out all after the word "fund."
Which was adopted.

The question then recurring upon the amendment as
amended,

It was rejected.

Mr. Keech submitted the following amendment:

Add at end of section 1, whenever the necessities of the
public schools demand a change of site or sites already built
upon, or a new school house to be built.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Keech submitted the following amendment:

Chapter 8, section 1, line 4, strike out the word "youth"
and insert "persons ;" and in the same line strike out the
word "eighteen" and insert the word twenty-one.

Which was read.

Mr. Legg submitted the following amendment:

Strike out the word "one" after the word "twenty" and
insert the word five.

Which was rejected.

The question then recurring upon the amendment sub-
mitted by Mr. Keech,

''History of the State of Maryland, General History."
