Ordered, That the thanks of this House are hereby ten-
dered to the Hon. John L. Biddison, for his dignified and
courteous discharge of the duties of temporary Chairman of
this House;

Which, was adopted.

On motion, of Mr. Syester,

At 4 o'clock P. M. the House adjourned until to-morrow
at 12 o'clock.

FRIDAY, January 3, 1868.

The House met, and was opened with, prayer by the
Rev. Mr. Hammond.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :
Messrs. Stewart, (Speaker,) Albaugh, Beck, Biddison,
Blake, Bond, of Baltimore city, Bond, of Calvert, Bowlus,
Brown, Boyer, Byers, Chaisty, Chapman, Clark, Coad, Col-
ton, Conley, Conway, Corbin, Coudy, Dalrymple, Davis, of
Carroll, Davis, of Cecil, Deale, Devecmon, Dutrow, Fooks,
Guy, Hall, Hammond, Harden, Harig, Herbert, Holloway,
Holmes, Hopkins, Horsey, Hubbard, Iglehart, Johnson,
Jones, Jordan, Kean, Keech, Latrobe, Legg, Loker, Lowe,
Markland, Maynard, McCulloh, McElroy, Mearns, Mitchell,
Montague, Moore, Morse, Nelson, Nicolai, Offutt, Pent-
land, Percy, Poteet, Richards, Riggs, Robb, Rohrer, Rose,
Sanner, Seibert, Silver, Slingluff, Smith, of Baltimore
city., Smith, of Worcester, Stewart, of Dorchester, Sudler,
Syester, Touchstone, Trimble, Vandiver, Wenner, Wentz,
Jr., Williams, Worthington—83.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.

Mr. James Stanton, officer elect, appeared, qualified, and
entered upon the discharge of his duties.

The Speaker appointed George W. Murdoch Hall-Keeper,

Mr. Brown submitted the following order :

Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed by the
Speaker to prepare rules for the House of Delegates, and
further, that the rules of the last session be in force until
others shall be adopted ;

Which was adopted, and

Messrs. Brown, Poteet, Syester, Bond, of Baltimore city,
Stewart, of Dorchester, constituted, said committee;

Also, the following order :
