Which was read.

Mr. Latrobe moved to amend the order by striking out
four and six respectively, and inserting in lieu thereof eight
and half-past ten.

The said amendments were adopted, and the order as
amended was then adopted.

Mr. Smith, of Worcester, submitted the following order :

Ordered, That during the balance of the session that no
member be permitted to speak over ten minutes.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Riggs submitted the following order :

Ordered, That Mr. Offutt, of Montgomery, have leave of
absence for two days.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Jordan submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that John W.
Harden was absent from this House on Saturday last on ac-
count of visiting his home.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Jordan submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Henry S.
Davis was absent from this House on Saturday last on ac-
count of having received a telegraphic dispatch to come
home.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Brown submitted the following order :

Ordered, That T. H. Hubbard have leave of absence until
Monday next, the 16th.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Devecmon submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Wm.
Devecmon during the late Senatorial contest, was unavoid-
ably absent on business, but that if he had been present he
would have voted for the Hon. Philip Francis Thomas.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Smith, of Worcester, gave notice of his purpose to
offer an amendment to rule ten of the Rules of Order of this
House, so as to read, that no member shall speak more than
once upon any subject before the House, and not longer than
ten minutes.

Mr. Coad submitted the following order:
