Mr. Latrobe submitted the following amendment:

Section 38, line 2, strike out the word "shall;" line 4,
strike out the word "himself."

Which was adopted.

Mr. Stewart, of Dorchester, submitted the following
amendments :

Section 38, line 7, after the word "thereof," insert the
words, so help me God.

Line 12, after the word "Maryland," insert the words "so
help me God."

Line 14, after the word "thereof," insert the words " so
help me God."

Which were adopted.

Mr. Chaisty submitted the following amendment :

Section 4, line 4, after the word "effect," insert the words,
provided that upon examination as above prescribed, they
can pass a satisfactory examination.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Latrobe submitted the following amendment :

Section 44, line 3, after the word " thousand," insert
the word "dollars."

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Iglehart,

The vote by which section 8 was passed to a third reading
was reconsidered.

Said section then being upon a second reading,
Mr. Iglehart submitted the following amendment :
Add to section 8 the following :

And this section shall also be construed as to authorize
any resident in any of the counties, outside of any town,
where from any reason he cannot appear at the office of the
enrolling officer for such enrollment, to appear within the
time specified above, before some Justice of the Peace of the
district in which he resides, and it is made the duty of said
Justice to take the name and general description of such per-
son, and to furnish the said applicant a certificate of the
same, the receipt of which to the enrolling officer shall dis-
charge such person from the operation of this section.

Which was adopted.

The bill, as amended, was then read a second time and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the following House
