Mr. Chapman submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the committee on engrossed bills have
authority to appoint an assistant engrossing clerk from the
present officers of the House, if one can be obtained.

Sir. McElroy submitted the following order :

Ordered, That 500 copies of the report of the Commission-
ers of Corporations, and supplements, be printed for the use
of the members of this House.

Which was read.

Mr. Pentland moved to strike out the words " five hun-
dred " and insert the words, three hundred and fifty.

Mr. Bond, of Baltimore city, moved to strike out the word
"five " before the word " hundred " and insert the word
"eight"

Mr. Davis, of Cecil, moved to strike out the word " five "
before the word " hundred," and insert the word " one."

The question recurring on the motion submitted by Mr.
Bond, of Baltimore city,

It was decided in the negative.

The question then recurring on the motion submitted by
Mr. Pentland,

It was concurred in.

The question then recurring upon the order as amended,

Mr. Davis, of Cecil, submitted the following order:

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of this House,
that Mr. Touchstone be excused for absence from his seat on
Monday last, he having been unavoidably detained at home.

Mr. Robb submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Dr. Ham-
mond is detained from his seat in the House to-day by urgent
professional business.
