lers.

The House then proceeded to the election of a Treasurer to
supply the place of Robert Fowler, the present State Treas-
urer, when it appeared that eighty-five ballots had been cast
on the part of the House of Delegates.

The Speaker then sealed the box and delivered the same
into the hands of Messrs, Herbert and Morse, the tellers on
the part of the House, who proceeded to the Senate Chamber
to join those who had been appointed on the part of the Sen-
ate for the purpose of counting the ballots.
On motion of Mr. Nelson,

At one o'clock, P. M., the House took a recess for thirty
minutes.

Upon reassembling, the tellers on the part of the House
returned and submitted the following report:

ANNAPOLIS, January 9, 1868.

The committee appointed by the Senate and House of Del-
egates to count the votes cast for Treasurer of Maryland,
beg leave to report:

That the votes cast by the Senate were in number - - 24
The votes cast by the House of Delegates were in number 85

Making in all - - - - - - 109

Of which number Robert Fowler received fifty-five votes,
John Merryman received fifty-three votes, and one blank
vote.

We therefore respectfully report, that Robert Fowler, hav-
ing received the largest number of votes, is returned by the
committee as elected to the office of Treasurer of Maryland.

JOHN A. ROBB.
Which was read.

Whereupon the Speaker declared that Robert Fowler, hav-
ing received a majority of all the votes cast, was, under the
provisions of the Constitution, duly elected Treasurer of the
State of Maryland for the term of two years.

On motion of Mr. McElroy,

The vote by which the order distributing the various
parts of the Governor's message to the respective commit-
tees was adopted, was reconsidered, when,

On motion of Mr. McElroy,
The report was recommitted.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered a bill entitled an Act
