330 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 11,

Mr. Moore presented the

Petition of W. W. Wilson, Dr. S. Kennedy, and sundry
other citizens, for a division of the First Election District of
Caroline county.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Moore, Hubbard
and Sudler.

Mr. Keech submitted the following order :

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary examine
into, and consider the laws now in force in this State regula-
ting the enforcement of contracts of hiring, and report to this
House by bill or otherwise, as soon as practicable what amend-
ments, if any. in its judgment may be necessary to secure the
more faithful observance of such contracts.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Iglehart submitted the following order:

Ordered, That leave of absence ha granted Thomas W.
Hammond for two days.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Hopkins submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Fooks,
of Wicomico, is absent on pressing business.

Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Montague,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to in-
troduce a bill requiring all agents of foreign insurance com-
panies doing business in this State, to exhibit to the Comp-
troller full authority for the settlement of losses, as a condition
precedent to the obtainment of a license to transact business.

Also,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
report a bill requiring all local insurance companies in this
State to make annual statements, under oath, to the Comp-
troller of the Treasury, of tbeir true condition, amount of
chartered capital, amount paid in, amount at risk, amount
invested and how invested, expenses and profits.

On motion of Mr. Poteet.

Leave was granted the Baltimore county delegation to in-
troduce a bill to authorize and empower Joshua Jessop, of
Baltimore county, trustee of the Dulaney's Valley and Sweet
Air Turnpike, to sell and convey the franchise of said com-
pany.
