CHAPTER 293.

AN ACT to incorporate the Executive Committee
of Publication of the General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church in the United States.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Rev. E. T. Baird, Rev. J. J.
Bullock, Rev. John Leyburn, Rev. J. A. Lefevre,
George M. Gill, John L. Weeks, G. T. Anderson,
William Logan Baird, A. H. Armisted, Henry C.
Kirk and P. P. Pendleton, and their successors,
duly chosen in manner as herein directed, be and
they are hereby constituted a body politic and cor-
porate, by the name and style of the Executive
Committee of Publication of the General Assembly
of the Presbyterian Church in the United States,
and by the name and style aforesaid shall be able
and capable to take and hold all such estate, pro-
perty and effects as may be acquired by gift, pur-
chase, devise or bequest, to aid and enable the said
Committee of Publication to purchase and publish,
or cause to be published, books, tracts and papers
connected with the diffusion of religious literature
and learning, and the building up and supporting
churches of the faith and worship of the said Pres-
byterian Church in the United States, and also to
undertake and carry on the business of publica-
tion, and of purchasing books and stationery, and
selling and disposing of the same ; provided, how-
ever, that the said Executive Committee of Publi-
cation shall always be subject to the control and
bound to obey the directions of the said General
Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the Uni-
ted States.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Execu-
tive Committee and their successors shall have and
use a common seal, and alter the same at their
pleasure, and by the name aforesaid may sue and
be sued, plead and be impleaded, and they are
hereby authorized to make by-laws and ordinances,
and prescribe the duties and qualifications of their
officers, subject, however, to the control and direc-
tion of the said General Assembly.
