Mr. Harden presented the petition of C. W. Webster,
asking compensation for compilation of the laws of the State;
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.
Mr. Pentland submitted the following order :
Ordered, That a joint committee of seven, (four on the
part of this House and three from the Senate,) be appointed
to inquire into the necessity of, and the most suitable man-
ner of enlarging the Maryland Penitentiary, and that they
have leave to report by bill or otherwise ;
Which was adopted.
Mr. Iglehart submitted the following order :
Ordered, That the use of this Hall he granted to the Sons
of Temperance, on Monday evening next, for the purpose of
hearing Hon. S. F. Carey, of the United States House of
Representatives, deliver a public lecture on the subject of
temperance ;
Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Albaugh,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Claims to intro-
duce a bill for the relief of John Wilcoxen, of Frederick
county.
On motion of Mr. Robb,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate the East Baltimore Perma-
nent Land and Building Association.
On motion of Mr. Bowlus,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate Good Samaritan Lodge, No.
15, of the Independent Order of Good Templars, of Middle-
town, Frederick county.
