Francis J. Henry is hereby directed to refund the
excess so erroneously paid to the parties, respec-
tively, who paid the same.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 252.
AN ACT to refund certain sums of money for
State Taxes, erroneously paid into the Trea-
sury of the State by the Society of the Redemp-
torists and by St. Anthony's Orphan Asylum.
|

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, the Society of the Redemptorists and
the Society of St. Anthony's Orphan Asylum were
duly incorporated by the laws of this State for
religious, literary and charitable purposes ; and
whereas, said Society, in ignorance of their rights,
have for some years past been assessed and have
paid State taxes upon their grave-yard and Church
property, pastoral residences, held, occupied and
used by them for the charitable purposes of said
institutions to the amount of one thousand and
seven dollars and seventy-five cents ; and whereas,
in compliance with the thirty-third Section of
Article three of the Constitution of Maryland, his
Excellency, the Governor, has recommended the
passage of an Act of relief for said Societies.

Treasurer to
pay.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer be and he is
hereby authorized and directed to pay, upon the
warrant of the Comptroller, to the order of the
Reverend Michael Muller, President of the Society
of the Redemptorists and of St. Anthony's Orphan
Asylum, or to his successor, the sum of one thou-
sand seven dollars and seventy-five cents.
