whose duty it shall be to examine and report upon all con-
tracts made for stationery, printing and purchases for the
public offices and Library, and expenditures therein, and
upon all matters of alleged abuse in expenditures, to which
their attention may be called by resolution of either House
of the General Assembly ; and heartily concur therein.
We have appointed on the part of the House, Messrs. La-
trobe, Syester, Slingluff, Coudy, Devecmon, Johnson and
Touchstone. By order,

The Speaker appointed Messrs. Bond, of Calvert, and
Poteet, a committee to wait upon the Senate, and escort them
to the House.
At 2 o'clock, P. M. the Senate of Maryland, escorted by
Messrs. Bond and Poteet, entered the Hall of the House of
Delegates, when the returns for the election of Governor
were opened by the Speaker, in the presence of both Houses,
and read by the Clerk :
