CHAPTER 140.

AN ACT giving the assent of the State of Mary-
land to the purchase of a parcel of land -by the
United States Government from William H.
Dorsey and others, and ceding to the United
States of America the jurisdiction over the site
of the Northwest Beacon building or light
house, and the parcel of land thereto appurten-
ant, in a line with the Brewerton Channel, in
the Patapsco River, in this State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the consent of the State of
Maryland is hereby given to the purchase by the
Government of the United States from William
H. Dorsey and others, of a lot or parcel of ground
lying on Leading Point, in Anne Arundel County,
for the purpose of erecting thereon a light house,
being the Northwest Beacon Building, in a line
with Brewerton Channel, in the Patapsco River,
in this State, the metes and bounds of which are
as follows : Beginning at a point on a line in range
with the Brewerton Channel, in the Patapsco

Boundary.

River, and running west twenty-two degrees north
from a stone planted on the western shore of
Thomas' Cove, which place of beginning is distant
one hundred and eighty yards from said stone so
planted ; thence north, twenty-two degrees east,
two hundred feet ; thence west, twenty-two de-
grees north, one hundred feet ; thence south,
twenty-two degrees west, four hundred feet ;
thence east, twenty-two degrees south, one hun-
dred feet ; thence north, twenty-two degrees east,
two hundred feet, to the place of beginning.

Jurisdiction.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the jurisdiction
and control over the said parcel of land is hereby
ceded to the United States, reserving, nevertheless,
to the State of Maryland, concurrent jurisdiction
over the said lot or parcel of ground, so far as
may be necessary to authorize the service thereon
of process issued by any court or officer of this
State.
