CHAPTER 50.
AN ACT regulating the number and prescribing
the powers and duties of the County Commis-
sioners for Wicomico County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That tliere shall be five County Com-
missioners for Wicomico County, who shall have
all the powers and perform such duties as are now
or may hereafter he conferred by law upon the
County Commissioners in several counties in this
State not inconsistent herewith, and in addition
thereto shall have the entire control and manage-
ment of the Almshouse and poor of said county
without the intervention of Trustees of the Poor.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Com-
missioners shall have power to appoint a Clerk,
who shall receive an annual salary of four hundred
ilollars : who before he enters upon the discharge
••f his duties shall take the oath of office provided
for by the Constitution of the State, and remain in
oitice till his successor has been appointed and
qualified.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the said Clerk
shall give bond to the State of Maryland in the
penal sum of one thousand dollars, with two good
and sufficient sureties for the faithful performance
i'l his duties ; which bond shall be filed in the
';ifice of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for said
county, a certified copy of which shall be sufficient
evidence in a suit against him.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the said County
Commissioners may purchase a farm for an alms-
house and grounds for the use of the poor of said
county ; they may also purchase and use grounds
and buildings for election houses and for other
public purposes, whenever in their judgment the
public convenience may require it for the use of
said county.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.
