Grove, Mr. Compton offered the following amendment to the amendment: Property belonging to colored people in this State, shall, not be subject to taxation for school purposes in this State. The amendment was then adopted by yeas and nays as fol- lows : AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. Browne, Hammond, Biggs, Kimmel, Brewer, Maddox, Carroll, Malone, Denson, Parker, of Calvert, Earle, Welch—12. NEGATIVE. Messrs. President, Lee, Clarke, Spates, Fields, Smith, Henkle, Walsh—9. Hyland, Mr. Earle offered the following amendment : Page 47, section 1, strike out the word " twelve," and in- sert the word ten. Which was adopted. Mr. Malone offered the following amendment : Page 47, section 2, line 7, after the word " counties," add the Comptroller in making the distribution of the several items of the free school fund, shall apportion to Wicomico- county such portion of said fund as it will be entitled to ac- cording to the several laws regulating the distribution of said- fund, and the County Commissioners of Wicomico are hereby authorized and required to provide for taking the census of said county, and such census shall be certified to the Comp- troller on or before the 25th day of June, 1868. Which was adopted. Mr. Clarke offered the following amendments : Page 47, section 2, after the word "adopted," in line 4, strike out all to the end of line 5. |
