Mr. Hammond offered the following amendments:

Page S3, section 3, line 4, strike out the words Central
Board of Examination, and insert "Principal of the State
Normal School."

And strike out all after the word " Grammar," in 10th
line, to the end of section.

Page 34, section 5, line 2, strike out all after the word
"as," and insert, the Board of County School Commissioners
may direct.

Which were adopted.
Mr. Compton offered the following amendment :

Chapter 12, section 1, strike out all after the word " of,"
in line 3, to the word " and," in line 5, and insert in lieu
thereof the following: At least three members of the
Board of School Commissioners.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Compton offered the following amendment :
Add to chapter 12 the following :

Sec. 6. It shall be the duty of each County Examiner at
least twice in each school year, in counties having fifty or a
less number of schools, and once in counties having more in
his county ; he shall observe the method of the teacher, and
give him such practical suggestions as the circumstances may
prompt ; he shall, whenever possible, attend public examina-
tions and report quarterly in detail the results of his obser-
vations to the Board of County School Commissioners; he
shall receive as compensation for his services as Treasurer,
Secretary, and Examiner such sum, payable quarterly by
the School Commissioners, out of the school fund of each
county, as the Board of County School Commissioners shall
in their judgment deem proper.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Hammond offered the following amendment :
District School Commissioners.

The School Commissioners for the several election districts
are requested to visit each school in their respective districts
at least once a quarter, of which notice shall be given to the
Trustees of the school intended to be visited, and shall ex-
amine the scholars and note their proficiency and report the
same to the County School Commissioners at their quarterly
meetings.
