grade shall determine to which school pupils shall be ad-
mitted.

Which was adopted.
Mr. Kimmel submitted the following amendment :

Chapter 10, section 2, strike out section 2d, and insert,
" The School District Board shall have power to suspend
and expell pupils for cause.

Which was adopted.
Mr. Hammond offered the following amendment :

Chapter 10, section 1, strike out, and insert, school books
shall contain nothing of a sectarian or partizan character.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Compton offered the following amendments to chapter
11.

Section 1. School books shall contain nothing of a sectarian
or partizan character.

Section 2. Each Board of County School Commissioners
shall purchase the text books for their respective county,
after having examined such as may be recommended by the
Board of Trustees of the State Normal School, whose duty it
is hereby made to present a list of books to said County
Boards with their written reasons for such recommendation.

They shall authorize the delivery of books and stationery
to the various schools in the county, upon the order of the
Commissioner of the Election District, or of the Teacher,
endorsed by a Trustee of the School District.

Section 3. On or before the fourth Monday of July in each
year, the several School District Boards shall furnish to the
Board of County School Commissioners a schedule of books
and stationery required for the schools in their respective
districts for the ensuing year.

Section 4. The Board of County School Commissioners
shall keep an account of the books and stationery delivered
to the several schools in their respective districts, and file
their receipts for the same.

Section 5. The Board of County School Commissioners shall
publish annually in all the newspapers in the county, an
exhibit of the cost of the text books and the distribution there-
of, and the money received therefor from the several school
house districts;

Provided, that no pupil shall be required to pay more
than one dollar per quarter for such use, and that any pupil
may be exempted from payment in the discretion of the
School District Board.
