Senate bill entitled an Act to release to Thomas Jarred and Esma Lowe from liabilities to the State incurred by se- curityship, and the bond of Alexander Knotts, of Caroline county, Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. Senate bill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed Janu- ary session, 1857, entitled an Act to repeal section 4, of chap- ter 3, of the Act of 1855, chapter 160, entitled "School- house sites, "and section 1 of chapter 1, entitled sources of income, of the Act of 1865, chapter 150, entitled an Act to add a new Article to the Code of Public General Laws, to be entitled, Public Instruction, providing a uniform system of Free Public Schools for the State of Maryland, and to re- peal all existing laws inconsistent therewith, and to re-enact the same with amendments, Was considered, and ordered to lie over. Senate bill entitled an Act to provide for the erection of a new Maryland Penitentiary, and to dispose of the present Maryland State Penitentiary, Was considered, and ordered to lie on the table. Mr. Maddox, from a select committee, reported Senate bill entitled an Act to create the office of Wood Corder of Leonardtown. Which was read the first time. Mr. Clarke, from a select committee, reported favorably House bill entitled an Act requiring the County Commis- sioners of Baltimore and Carroll counties, to levy a sum of money to build a bridge across the north branch of the Patapsco river, on the Lime Kiln road. Which was read a second time. Senate bill entitled an Act to prohibit the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors in District No. 2, commonly called Dames' Quarter District, Somerset county, Maryland, Was read a second time, and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. |
