1868.] OF THE SENATE. 455 A bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 1, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 2, of chapter 252, of the Laws of Maryland, passed Jan- uary session, 1867, entitled an Act to repeal the 37th, 38th, 39th and 40th sections of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled " Licenses," and substitute, in lieu thereof, the fol- lowing sections. Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee on Judicial Proceedings. Mr. Maddox, from the Committee on Education, reported Senate bill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed January session, 1867, entitled an Act to repeal section 4, of chapter 3, of the Act of 1865, chapter 160, entitled "School-House Sites,"and section 1, chapter 1, entitled "Sources of In- come," of the Act of 1865, chapter 160, entitled an Act to add a new Article to the Code of Public General Laws, to be entitled " Public Instruction," providing a uniform system of Free Public Schools for the State of Maryland, and to re- peal all existing laws inconsistent therewith, and to re-enact the same with amendments. Which was read the first time. Mr. Biggs, from the Committee on Pensions, reported fa- vorably House bill entitled an Act to pay Elizabeth C. Dor- sey, of Frederick county, widow of Vachel W. Dorsey, who was a soldier of the war of 1812, from the State of Maryland, an annual pension of eighty dollars during her natural life. Which was read the second time. Mr. Spates, from the Committee on Corporations, reported favorably House bill entitled an Act to repeal the charter incorpo- rating the town of Snow hill, in Worcester county, and enact the following in lieu thereof. Which was read a second time. Mr. Browne, from the Committee on Agriculture, offered the following : The Committee on Agriculture, to whom was referred the petition of citizens of Anne Arundel county, asking for the passage of a law to regulate fencing in said county, respect- fully beg leave to report: "That they deem it inexpedient to take any action thereon, believing that the common law upon the subject is already amply sufficient." Which was read and adopted. Mr. Spates, from the Committee on Corporations, reported Senate bill entitled an Act to amend an Act, passed at the session of the General Assembly of Maryland, held in the year 1860, entitled an Act to incorporate the Bare Hill Mining Company. |
