1868.] OF THE SENATE. 453 With proposed amendment: Amend section 10, by adding "provided that the Board of Directors of said county shall have power to receive payments 'for the whole or any part of any subscription to the capital stock of said company, either in land or money, and if in land; then at such price, valuation or terms as may be agreed upon by the subscriber and those appointed and empowered •to receive such subscriptions. Which was adopted, And the bill as amended passed by yeas and nays as fol- lows : AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. President, Hammond, Browne, Lee, Biggs, Maddox, Brewer, Miller, Clarke, Malone, Carroll, Spates, Denson, Snyder, Fields, Smith, Henkle, Walsh, Hyland, Welch—20. NEGATIVE—None. Mr. Hammond presented the petition of sundry citizens of "Talbot county, protesting against the raising of money by .taxation therein, for the erection of a Market house, &c., &c. Which was referred to the Senators from Talbot, Queen Anne's and Caroline. Mr. Miller asked and obtained leave for the Committee of Investigation to sit during the session of the Senate. On motion by Mr. Malone, Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed- ings to report a bill to make valid certain indentures of ap- prenticeship, which were not approved in time by the Or- phans' Court of Somerset county, (in consequence of the ar- restof the Judges of the said Orphans' Court by the mili- tary.) On motion by Mr. Smith, Leave was granted to the select committee on the Reforma- tory Institutions of the State, to introduce a bill to exempt from State and city taxation, the real and personal property of the General German Orphans' Associations of the city of Baltimore.
