1868.] OF THE SENATE. 387 Mr. Biggs presented the petition of Ezra Houck, and 37 citizens of Frederick county, praying the passage of a law to regulate fences in said county. Which was referred to Messrs. Biggs, Grove and Spates. Mr. Smith presented the petition of sundry citizens of Dorchester county, asking the passage of a law to prohibit the use of lanterns in gunning for wild fowl. Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries. On motion by Mr. Clarke, Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to in- troduce a bill appropriating a sum of money, not exceeding four thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be neces- sary, to pay the debts and expenses ordered and incurred by the General Assembly of Maryland at the January session of 1867. On motion by Mr. Maddox, Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to introduce a bill to incorporate the Provident Life and Trust Company of Baltimore. On motion by Mr. Malone, Leave was granted to the Senators from Wicomico, Som- erset and Baltimore counties to report a bill authorizing the County Commissioners for Wicomico county to purchase a site for public buildings, and to erect a jail thereon, at Salis- bury, for Wicomico county. On motion by Mr. Hyland, Leave was granted to the Senators from Somerset, Dor- chester and Wicomico, to report a bill to prohibit the sale of intoxicating liquors in District No. 2, Somerset county. On motion by Mr. Spates, Leave was granted to the Senators from Allegany, Har- ford and Cecil, to introduce a bill entitled an Act to repeal section 69 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany county, sub-title fences, and to re-enact the same with amendments. On motion by Mr. Henkle, Leave was granted to the Committee on Agriculture to introduce a bill to add an additional Article to the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, to be entitled Commission Merchants, relative to their responsibilities for boxes, bags, chests, baskets, barrels, &c.,in which fruit or vegetables may be sent to them for sale.
