WEDNESDAY, March 4,1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Andrew Jackson Myers.
Present at roll call :

Messrs. President, Browne, Biggs, Carroll, Denson,
Earle, Fields, Grove, Henkle, Hyland, Hammond, Maddox,
Miller, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Welch—17.

Senate bill entitled an Act to amend an Act passed at Jan-
uary session, 1865, chapter 33, entitled an Act to provide
bounty for soldiers entering the service of the United States,
to fill the quotas of Maryland under the call of the President
of the United States of the 19th December, 1864, and under
future calls, by amending and re-enacting sections 4, 5 and 6,
which were repealed, or intended to be repealed, by the Act
of 1867, chapter 156,

Being the unfinished business of yesterday,
Was taken up on its second reading.
Mr. Henkle offered the following amendment :

Strike out "October 1st of the current year," and insert
"the first day of January, 1869."

Which was adopted,

And the bill as amended read a second time and ordered to
be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Fields presented a petition from citizens of Dorches-
ter county against the repeal of the Funeral Law.

Which was referred to the Committee on Corporations.

Mr. Henkle presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Anne Arundel county regarding the height of fences.

Which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

Mr. Fields presented the petition of citizens of the 2d
Election District of Caroline county.

Which was referred to the Senators from Talbot, Caroline
and Somerset.

Mr. Smith presented the petition of sundry citizens of
Dorchester county in regard to the laws of Bastardy.
