1868.] OF THE SENATE. 355 to fill the quotas of Maryland, under the call of the Presi- dent of the United States of the 19th December, 1864, and under future calls, by amending and re-enacting sections 4, 5 and 6, which were repealed or intended to be repealed by the Act of 1867, chapter 156, Being upon its second reading, Mr. Clarke moved to recommit the bill to the Committee on Finance. Which was determined in the negative by yeas and nays as follows: AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. Browne, Clarke—2. NEGATIVE. Messrs. President, Maddox, Earle, Miller, Fields, Spates, Grove, Snyder, Hyland, Smith, Hammond, Walsh, Lee, Welch—14. Mr. Clarke moved to postpone the bill until the 29th of March next. Which was determined in the negative by yeas and nays as follows: AFFIRMATIVE,—Mr. Clarke—1. NEGATIVE. Messrs. President, Miller, Browne, Spates, Earle, Snyder, Fields, Smith, Grove, Walsh, Hammond, Welch—12. Mr. Clarke offered the following amendment : That a committee be appointed to examine the books of the Comptroller's Office to see the amount due for bounties to the 3d of March, 1868. Which the President ruled out of order. On motion by Mr. Miller, The Senate adjourned until to-morrow at 11 o'clock, A. M. |
