Spates, Fields, Snyder, Grove, Smith, Hyland, Welch—14. Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal chapter 156, passed January session, 1867, entitled an Act to repeal sections 6 and 21 1868. The Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Prayer by the Rev. Father Burke. Present at roll call : Messrs. Browne, Clarke, Carroll, Denson, Earle, Hyland, Hammond, Kimmel, Lee, Maddox, Malone, Parker, of Cal- vert, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh, Welch—17. On motion by Mr. Walsh, The Senate went into executive session. After a short session the Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative business. Mr. Hammond presented the petition of Henry E. Bate- man, Edward S. Harrison, Thomas J. Shreeve and other citizens of Talbot county, in relation to Tench Tilghman. Which was referred to the Senators from Talbot, Queen Anne's and Caroline. Mr. Malone presented the petition of sundry citizens of Wicomico county against the repeal of the Funeral Law. Which was referred to the Committee on Corporations. Mr. Lee presented a letter from the County Commissioners of Prince George's county objecting to the reopening of the assessment list. Which was referred to the Committee on Finance. On motion by Mr. Carroll, The Joint Resolutions in relation to the rejection of the Hon. Philip F. Thomas, Senator elect from Maryland, by the Senate of the United States, Being the order of the day, Were taken up on their third reading. Mr Maddox offered the following amendment: WHEREAS, the Senate of the United States now assembled in Congress, has deliberately resolved "that the Hon. Philip F. Thomas, Senator from the State of Maryland," shall not be admitted to his seat on taking the oath prescribed by the laws of the United States, and has as deliberately announced the reasons which govern its action by resolving "that Philip F. Thomas has voluntarily given aid, countenance |
