Mr. Bowlus presented a petition of William W. Cunning-
ham, John H. T. Purdy and 19 others, for an Act of Incorpo-
ration of Good Samaritan Lodge of the Independent Order, of
Good Templars, of Middletown, Md.

Which was read and referred to Committee on Corpora-
tions.

Mr. Albaugh presented a petition for the relief of John
Wilcoxen, of Frederick county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Wentz presented the report of the Board of the Bal-
timore Female College.

Which was read, ordered to be printed, and referred to
the Committee on Education.

Mr. Bond, of Baltimore city, presented a petition praying
certain amendments in the method of making election returns
in the State of Maryland.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Mr. McElroy submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of this
House that Mr. John N. Conway is absent from his seat by
reason, of sickness.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Vandiver submitted the following order :

Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed in accord-
ance with the Governor's Message to examine into the con-
dition of the prisoners in the Penitentiary, and recommend for
pardon such as in their judgment should be pardoned.

Which was adopted.

And Messrs. Vandiver, Biddison, Robb, Percy and Chap-
man, were constituted said comramittee.

Mr. Nicolai submitted the following order:

Ordered, That the Speaker appoint a Special Committee
of five members to whom shall be referred the Message of
the Governor, together with the accompanying Documents,
for the purpose of distributing the several matters therein
contained to appropriate committees.

Which was adopted, and Messrs. Nicolai, McElroy, Van-
diver, Syester and Guy, constituted said committee.

Mr. Davis, of Carroll, submitted the following order:
Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed by the
Speaker of this House to visit the City of Baltimore, to ex-
amine into the affairs of the Tobacco Warehouses, and that
said committee have power to send for persons and papers.

Which was adopted, and Messrs. Davis, of Carroll, Mon-
tague, Sanner, Williams and Goad, were constituted said
committee.

Mr. Bowlus submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Librarian be instructed to famish the
