Ordered, That Mr. Hammond, Senator from Talbot, have
leave of absence until Tuesday next.

On motion by Mr. Walsh,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to carry out the provisions of section
44, Article 3, of the Constitution, in reference to the exemp-
tion ot' a reasonable amount of the property of the debtor
from execution.

On motion by Mr. Clarke, it was

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourn, it stands ad-
journed until Monday next, at 12 o'clock.

On motion by Mr. Compton,
The following message was sent to the House of Delegates :

BY THE SENATE,

February 21, 1868.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We have received your message proposing the appointment
of a joint committee, consisting of three members of the House
and two members of the Senate, to take into consideration
the message of the Executive, communicating the facts in
connection with the recent action of the U. S. Senate upon
the application for admission to that body by the Hon. P. F.
Thomas, Senator elect from this State, and respectfully de-
cline to concur therein, a similar communication having
been received by the Senate from the Executive, and refer-
red to the standing committee of this body upon Federal
Relations.

appointed under the Act of 1840, chapter 215, and its several
supplements, to invest certain, money remaining in their
