Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to exempt mortgages from taxation.

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to refund to Samuel S. Redgrave, money errone-
ously paid into the State Treasury.

Mr. Grove from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings
reported favorably

House bill entitled an Act to repeal section 194, of Article 8,
of the Public Local Laws, entitled Anne Arundel county,
sub-title Sheriff, and to re-enact another section in lieu there-
of, relating to the fees of Sheriff for keeping and boarding
prisoners.

Which was read the second time.
Also,

Senate bill entitled an act to repeal section 25, of Article
38, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating, to Notaries
Public, and to re-enact the same with, amendments.

Which was read the first time.

Also,

Senate bill entitled an Act to amend the 27th section of
Article 38, of Public General Laws of Maryland, by adding
thereto the following sections, increasing Sheriff's fees of the
several counties of the State.

Which was read the first time.

Also,

Senate bill entitled an Act to change the name of Josephine
Stevens.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Smith, from a select committee, reported favorably.

House bill entitled an Act to repeal section 210, of Art. 10,
of the Public Local Laws of Dorchester county, and to enact
the following in lieu of it.

Which was read the second time.

Mr. Lee submitted the following order:

Ordered, That the committee appointed to enquire into
charges of corrupt practices to influence legislation, are not
under injunction of secrecy, but have leave in their discretion
to hold their proceedings openly, and said committee for des-
patch of business, and public economy, has authority t6 em-
ploy a stenographic reporter and clerk.
