250 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 20,

Mr. Smith presented the petition of the President and
Trustees of the Baltimore Orphans' Asylum.

Which was referred to the Committee on Beneficiary In-
stitutions.

Mr. Maddox presented the petition of N. Conrad, and
other citizens of St. Mary's county.

Which was referred to the Committee on Corporations.
The President presented the following :

GREENWOOD, February 18, 1868.
Hon. Barnes Compton,

President of the Senate of Maryland:

Please have it entered on the Journal that Mr. Brewer, of
Montgomery county, is detained from his seat by sickness.

Mr. Welch presented the petition of citizens of Kent
county, opposing the repeal of the Funeral Law.

Which was referred to the Committee on Corporations.
On motion by Mr. Hyland,

Leave was granted to the Senators from Somerset, Dor-
chester and Wicomico, to report a bill to repeal the Act of
1865, chapter 60, relating to retailers, and to re-enact sec-
tions 139, 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147 and 148
of the Code of Public Local Laws for Somerset county.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill to amend Article 79 of the Public
General Laws, title Releases and Receipts, by adding a new
section thereto.

On motion by Mr. Smith,

Leave was granted to the Senators from Dorchester, Som-
erset and Caroline, to introduce a bill to authorize the County
Commissioners of Dorchester county to levy a sum to pay
the executors of Thomas Woolford, deceased, taxes paid in
error by the said Woolford.

Mr. Hammond presented the petition of Samuel Hamble-
ton, G. H. Skinner, and other citizens of Talbot county,

opposing the repeal of the Funeral Law.

Which was referred to the Committee on Corporations.
On motion by Mr. Clarke,
