1868, and to give the officers of the present system time to
complete and send in their accounts.

Which was read, and to which

Mr. Spates offered the following substitute :

Ordered, That the Attorney General of the State be re-
queuled to furnish to the Senate his written opinion as to the
power of the Legislature to continue the present school sys-
tem until the 15th day of July next, and at the same time
enact a new system, which shall commence on that day.

Which was read.

Mr. Spates withdrew the substitute, and

Mr. Henkle offered the following amendment:

After "constituted," 4th line, insert, "if in their judg-
ment it shall be deemed expedient."

Which was adopted, and

The order as amended was then adopted.

On motion by Mr. Walsh,
The Senate went into executive session.

After a short session the Senate resumed the consideration
of legislative business.

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

House hill entitled a supplement to an Act of incorpora-
tion, passed at December session, 1849, chapter 34,

Being the order of the day,

Was postponed until Tuesday the 25th inst.

Mr. Spates, from the Committee on Corporations, re-
ported

A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Emmittsburg
Rail Road Company.

Which was read the first time.
Also,

A bill entitled an Act to amend and to enlarge the powers
conferred by the Act entitled an Act, relating to the manner
of holding and transmitting the title to certain church
property therein mentioned, passed at December session,
1832, chap. 308.

Which was read the first time.

Also,

A bill entitled an Act to authorize the Mayor and Coun-
