TUESDAY, February 18, 1868.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hildt.
Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Clarke, Carroll, Denson, Fields, Grove,
Hyland, Hammond, Lee, Maddox, Malone, Parker, of Cal-
vert, Parker, of Worcester, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh,
Welch—18.

Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms J. Randolph Walton, appeared
and was sworn in by the President.

Mr. Denson presented the memorial of Josephine Stevens,
praying that her maiden name be restored to her.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

Mr. Hyland presented the petition of Leven A. Anderson,
Wm. Price, Geo. W. Rider, Lybrand Thomas, Saml. Web-
ster and 200 other citizens of Tangier District, Somerset
county, in regard to the sale of intoxicating liquors.

Which was referred to Messrs. Hyland, Malone and Smith.

Mr. Lee presented the petition of citizens of Prince George's
county, in regard to entertaining appeals from the valuation
of assessors.

Which was referred to the Committee on Finance.

Mr. Clarke presented the petitions of T. W. Bateman,
Joseph Parsons, and 54 other citizens of Baltimore county,
against the repeal of the funeral law.

Which were referred to the Committee on Judicial Pro-
ceedings.

On motion by Mr. Grove,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Williamsport, Washington county, Md.

Mr. Maddox offered the following order:

Ordered, That the Committee on Education be instructed
to provide for the continuance in their positions of the officers
and teachers of the system as now constituted, so as to keep
open the schools of the State until the 30th day of June,
