The bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.

Senate bill entitled an Act to provide for the appointment
of a Measurer of Charcoal for Baltimore city, from the State
at large,

Being the order of the day.

Was taken up on its passage.

Mr. Henkle submitted the following amendments:

1st. Amend by striking out all after the word "receive,"
in the 7th line, 3d sec. of printed bill, to the word " as," in
the 8th line and insert, for each certificate, twenty-five cents,
if the quantity does not exceed fifty bushels, and fifty cents,
if more than fifty bushels.

2d. Amend by adding at the end of sec. 3d, provided, that
nothing in this Act shall be construed so as to prohibit the
licensing of any person to retail Charcoal in the streets of
Baltimore city, under the ordinances of the city.

3d. Amend by striking out the words "by said Measurer of
Charcoal," in 3d line of 2nd sec. and insert, for Charcoal in
this State.

4th. Amend by adding a new sec. as follows :
Section 4. And be it enacted, That no Measurer of Char-
coal, shall either directly or indirectly, be concerned in the
purchase or sale of Charcoal, under a penalty of twenty dol-
lars for each and every offence.

Which amendments were adopted.
Mr. Snyder offered the following :

Amend second section by striking out all that occurs after
the word ''inches," in the fourth line, to the end of the sec-
tion.
