On motion by Mr. Malone,
Leave was granted to the Senators from Wicomico, Wor-
cester and Somerset to report a bill to incorporate Newton
Lodge No. 56 of the Independent Order of Odd-Fellows, at
Salisbury, Wicomico county, Maryland.
On motion by Mr. Smith,
Leave was granted to the Senators from Dorchester, Som-
erset and Caroline to introduce a bill to authorize and em-
power the Commissioners of Dorchester county to sell and
convey the Alms House property of said county, and to erect
or purchase from the proceeds thereof an Alms House in
a more desirable and healthful locality.
On motion by Mr Smith,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to authorize the Comptroller and Treasurer to
refund to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Dorchester county
a certain sum by him charged in error on license for taking
oysters, and paid into the oyster fund.
On motion by Mr. Miller,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Library to
bring in a Mil to be entitled an Act regulating the mode
and manner in which the books in the Library shall be kept
and accounted for by the Librarian, as required by the 3d
section of the 7th Article of the Constitution.
On motion by Mr. Spates,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to alter and amend an Act to
incorporate the Mutual Insurance Company of Allegany
county, passed December session, 1847, chapter 111, and the
several supplements thereto.
Mr. Hammond presented a communication from George A.
Pope.
Which was referred to the Committee on Education.
Mr. Welch presented the petition of sundry citizens of
Kent county in relation to dredging for oysters.
Which was referred to the Committee on the Chesapeake
Bay and its Tributaries.
Mr. Snyder, from a select committee reported favorably,
without amendments, House bill entitled an Act to authorize
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore to provide for the
improvement of their public works by making appropriations
therefor within certain limits
