The Speaker laid before the House the communication of
James S. Franklin, Esq., Clerk of the Court of Appeals,
enclosing replies of the State Reporter in response to an
order of the House.
Which were read and referred to- the Committee on the
Judiciary.
Also the following reply of Wm. J. Leonard, Comptrol-
ler, to a resolution of inquiry :

SIR:—In obedience to an order passed the House January
24th, 1868, requesting me to inform your Honorable Body
" the several sums of money, from time to time, since the es-
tablishment of the office of the Comptroller, paid out of the
public Treasury, to and for the use of St John's College,"
I have the honor to report that there has been paid since the
establishment of this office in 1852 to 1867, inclusive, (16
years,) the sum of three thousand ($3,000) dollars per an-
num, making a total of forty-eight thousand ($48,000) dol-
lars.
All of which is respectfully submitted.
