On motion by .Mr. Kimmel,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill entitled an Act to amend the thirty-
seventh Article of the Public General Laws by repealing the
second section of said Article relating to the competency of
witnesses and the examination of parties, as amended by the
Act of 1864, chapter 109, and inserting in said Article in
lieu of the section so repealed the following section relating
to the competency of witnesses and the examination of
parties:

On motion by Mr. Grove,

Leave of absence was granted to Assistant Postmaster
Coon until Tuesday next.

Emory G. Mitchell, Thomas P. Townsend, W. H. Hiss
and Philip M. Slicer appeared, qualified and took the oath of
office.

On motion by Mr. Hammond,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill entitled an Act to repeal Article thirty-
eight, section twenty-five, of the Code of General Public
Laws, and to re-enact the same with, amendmets.

On motion by Mr. Walsh,

Leave of absence was granted to Mr. "Miller until Tuesday
next.

On motion by Mr. Hammond,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill entitled an Act to repeal section 3, chap-
ter 405 of the Code of Public General Laws, and re-enact the
same with, amendments.

Mr. Malone from the select committee, introduced a hill
entitled an Act to make valid the official acts of the Justices
of the Peace, Constables and Supervisors of the Public Roads
in Wicomico.,

Which, was read the first time.

Mr. Malone from the select committee, introduced a Mil
entitled an Act to incorporate Newton Lodge, No. 56, of the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows, at Salisbury, Wicomico
County, Md.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Maddox asked leave to withdraw from the files of the
Senate, the hill entitled an Act for the relief of Capt. R. Jones,
of St. Mary's county, from any responsibility to the State of
Maryland, for the preservation of arms.

The bill entitled an Act to amend Article 29, of the Code
of Public General Laws of the State of Maryland, adding
thereto the following sections :
Was read the second time, and
Ordered to he engrossed for a third reading.
The bill entitled an Act; to incorporate Burns Lodge No.
87, of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons,
