THURSDAY, January 9, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hammond.
Present at roll call:

Messrs. President, Browne, Brewer, Clarke, Carroll, Den-
son, Earle, Grove, Henkle, Hyland, Hammond, Kimmel,
Lee, Maddox, Miller, Malone, Parker, of Calvert, Parker, of
Worcester, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh, Welch.

The President announced the order of the day, the elec-
tion for Treasurer of the State.
On motion by Mr. Henkle,

A call of the Senate was ordered, and the Sergeant-at-
Arms sent to notify the absent Senators.

The Sergeant-at-Arms returned, and stated that he had
notified the absent Senators.

The following message was received and read, from the
House of Delegates:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 9, 1868.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
to proceed to the election of State Treasurer, in accordance
with the message of your Honorable Body, acceded to by
this House on the 3d instant.

We have nominated on the part of this House, Messrs.
John Merryman and Robert Fowler, of Baltimore county,
and we have appointed Messrs. Herbert and Robb to join
such gentlemen as may be named by your Honorable Body
to count the ballots and report the result.

By order,

MILTON Y. KIDD,

Chief Clerk.

The following message was sent to the House of Delegates:

BY THE SENATE,

January 9, 1868.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :.

We have received your message proposing to go into the
election of Treasurer, and concur therein. We have named
on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Clarke and Maddox as
tellers. By order,

A. GASSAWAY,

Secretary.

The Senate proceeded to deposit their ballots in the ballot-
box, which was delivered to Messrs. Clarke and Maddox,
