far as relates to corporations, will be presented to the Gen-
eral Assembly, at the latest, by Tuesday, January 15, 1868.

Gentlemen of the Senate :
We propose, with the assent of your Honorable Body,
to appoint, a joint special committee of four members of the
House, and three on the part of the Senate, to take into con-
sideration that portion of the Governor's Message which
relates to the wants of the Maryland Penitentiary, and to
report whatever legislation is necessary in the premises.
We have appointed on the part of the House Messrs. Nicolai,
Pentland, Holmes and Herbert.

Gentlemen of the Senate :
We have received your communication proposing the ap-
pointment of a joint standing committee of the Senate and
and House of Delegates, as is required to he appointed by
the 24th section of the 3d Article of the Constitution, who
shall have power to send for persons and examine them on
oath, and call for all public or official papers and records,
and whose duty it shall be to examine and report upon all
contracts made for stationery, printing and purchases for the
public offices and library and expenditures therein, and upon
all matters of alleged abuse in expenditures to which their
attention may be called by resolution of either House of the
General Assembly, and heartily concur therein. We have
appointed on the part of the House Messrs. Latrobe, Sling-
luff, Coudy, Devecmon, Johnson and Touchstone.
