On motion by Mr. Spates,

The following message was sent to the House of Delegates :

BY THE SENATE,

January 7, 1868.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We have received your message proposing that the Com-
mittees of the Senate and House on Public Buildings confer
together with reference to the Executive Mansion, and
respectfully concur therein.

By order,

H. DAVIDSON,

Sec'y pro tem.

At 2 oclock, P. M., the Senate repaired to the Hall of the
House of Delegates and witnessed the opening of the vote
for Governor elect of Maryland.

The Senate returned, and on being called to order,

On motion by Mr. Hyland,
Adjourned until to-morrow at 12 o'clock, M.

WEDNESDAY, January 8, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hammond.

Present at roll call :

Messrs. President, Browne, Biggs, Brewer, Clarke, Car-
roll, Denson, Earle, Fields, Grove, Hyland, Hammond, Lee,
Maddox, Miller, Malone, Parker, of Calvert, Parker, of
Worcester, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh, Welch—23.

Hon. Lemuel Malone, Senator elect for Wicomico county,
appeared, qualified and took his seat.

The President presented the following communication from
Bernard Carter, Esq.:

BALTIMORE, January 7, 1868.
To the Hon. Barnes Compton,

President of the Senate :

SIR:—I have just, received from the Secretary of the
Senate a copy of the order passed yesterday in the Senate
requesting that the Commissioners appointed by the Gov-
ernor to prepare drafts of laws relating to corporations
and other purposes, would report as soon as practicable.
