TUESDAY, January 7, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Rev. Dr. Slicer.

Present at the call of the roll the following members:

Messrs. President, Browne, Biggs, Brewer, Clarke, Car-
roll, Denson, Earle, Fields, Grove, Hyland, Hammond,
Kimmel, Maddox, Miller, Parker, of Calvert, Parker of
Worcester, Spates, Snyder, Smith, Walsh, Welch—22.

The President presented the tenth annual report of the
Columbia Institution for the Deaf and Dumb for the year
ending June 10, 1867.

Which was referred to the Committee on Finance.
The President presented a communication from H. P, Jor-
dan, State Librarian.

(See Document D.)

Referred to the Committee on the Library.

Mr. Snyder presented the memorial of Philip G. Freize,
praying the passage of certain propositions, to be submitted
to the several State Legislatures.

Which was referred to the Committee on Federal Rela-
tions.

Mr. Biggs presented a communication from D. Zacharias,
Secretary Board of Visitors, Frederick College.

Referred to Committee on Finance.
On motion by Mr. Clarke,

Leave was granted to introduce a bill to incorporate the
Western Run and Reisterstown Turnpike Company in Bal-
timore county.

Referred to the Committee on Corporations.
On motion by Mr. Fields,

Leave was granted to introduce a bill to repeal chapter
225 of the laws passed at the January session, 1867. in
relation to the payment to the Maryland and Delaware Rail
Road Company, and to the Dorchester and Delaware Bail
Road Company, of the sum of thirteen thousand dollars
applied to the Choptank and Mispillion Bail Bead Company,
and to re-enact the same with amendments.

Referred to Senators from Somerset, Dorchester and Caro-
line counties.

On motion by Mr. Maddox,

Leave wag granted to introduce a hill to incorporate the
Southern Maryland Rail Road.

Referred to Committee on Internal Improvements.
On motion by Mr. Smith,

Ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate he instructed
