MONDAY, January 6, 1868.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Present, Messrs. President, Biggs, Brewer, Carroll, Den-
son, Earle, Fields, Henkle, Hyland, Kimmel, Miller, Parker,
of Worcester, Spates, Snyder, Smith—15.

Harrison T. Bennett, Door-keeper, appeared, qualified and
entered upon the discharge of his duties.
On motion by Mr. Miller, it was

Ordered, That the President appoint a committee of five
to prepare and report rules for the government of the Senate,
but until said committee report, and their report be adopted,
the rules governing the Senate at its last session be the rules
for the government of the Senate at its present session.

The President announced the following standing com-
mittees :

Committee on Labor and Immigration—Messrs. Lee, Walsh,
Carroll, Parker of Worcester, Biggs.

Committee on Finance.—Messrs, Earle, Miller, Spates,
Snyder, Hammond.

Committee on Judicial Proceedings.—Messrs. Grove, Mad-
dox, Miller, Kimmel, Malone.

Committee on Internal Improvements.—Messrs. Henkle,
Fields, Spates, Kimmel, Smith.

Committee on Revolutionary Claims.—Messrs. Hyland, Den-
son, Parker, of Calvert, Malone, Brewer.

Committee on Invalid Deeds and Defective, Proceedings.—
Messrs. Miller, Clarke, Browne, Maddox. Malone.

Committee on Insolvent Laws.—Messrs. Kimmel, Carroll,
Walsh, Smith, Parker, of Worcester.

Committee on Library.—Messrs. Brewer, Denson, Fields.

Committee on Engrossed Bills.—Messrs, Snyder, Welch,
Clarke, Lee, Henkle.

Committee on Pensions.—Messrs. Biggs, Snyder, Hammond.

Committee on Corporations and Joint Stock Companies.—
Messrs. Spates, Smith, Denson, Browne, Hyland.

Committee on Elections.—Messrs. Welch, Grove, Parker,
of Cahtert, Earle, Malone.

Committee on Agriculture.—Messrs. Browne, Biggs, Walsh,
Smith, Parker of Calvert.

Committee on Printing.—Messrs. Clarke, Henkle, Brewer,
Welch, Fields.

Committee on Education.—Messrs. Maddox, Earle, Browne,
Kimmel, Parker, of Worcester.

Committee on Federal Relations.—Messrs Carroll, Lee,
Hyland, Snyder, Parker, of Calvert.

Committee on Retrenchment in the Expenses of the several
Departments of Government.—Messrs. Denson, Clarke, Earle,
