grossed and signed by themselves, and the Clerk and Secre-
tary respectively ; and that his Excellency, Thomas Swann,
Governor of Maryland, on behalf of the two Houses, be re-
quested to transmit the same to the Hon. Secretary of the

Navy.

Which were read a first time.

Mr. Herbert (the rules being suspended,) submitted the
following Resolution :

WHEREAS, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, in-
corporated by and existing under the laws passed by the
State of Virginia, the General Government of the United
States, and the State of Maryland, is a private corporation,
the management of the interests, and superintendence of
the affairs of which, by law, is entrusted to the President and
Directors of the said Company, over whose action this Gen-
eral Assembly has no control, therefore

Resolved, That it is the duty of the said President and
Directors, as it is their right to locate the office of the said
Company at such places as in their judgment will best pro-
mote the interests of the said Company.

Which was read a first time, and referred to the Commit-
tee on Internal Improvements.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled an
Act to repeal section 92 of Article 17, of Public Local Laws
for Queen Anne's county, and sections 1, 92 and 2 of the Act
of 1867, chapter 421, relating to Justices of the Peace and
Constables in the aforesaid county.

Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays."

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,

At 2 1/2 o'clock, P. M., the House adjourned until to-morrow
at 12 o'clock, M.
