Mr. Marshall, (the rules being suspended,) submitted the
following order :
Ordered, That the use of this Hall be granted to the Grand
Division of the Sons of Temperance, on Thursday night next,
for the purpose of holding a public temperance meeting.
Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Coudy, (the rules being suspended,)
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to
report a bill to compel the Commissioners of Washington
county to pay Clerks to Registers for 1865, 1866 and 1867.
On motion of Mr. McElroy, (the rules being suspended,)
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to re-
port a Bill to provide for purchasing from J. Murphy & Co.,
1250 copies of the complete Supplement to the Code of Public
General and Public Local Laws, and 7,000 copies of the
Constitution of Maryland, for the use of the State Library and
Judicial officers of the State, and to appropriate a sum of
money to pay for the same.
Mr. Riggs (the rules being suspended,) submitted the fol-
lowing order :
Ordered, That Mr. Horsey have leave of absence until
Wednesday next.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Chaisty (the rules being suspended,) submitted the
following Joint Resolutions :
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That we
have learned with unspeakable delight, that the Hon. Secre-
tary of the Navy of the United States, has, with the consent
of the General Government, rendered valuable assistance by
the furnishing of Government transports to the Executive
and the Commissioners, to enable them to carry out the work
of Christian charity ordered by the last Legislature of Mary-
land, in the distribution of the one hundred thousand dol-
lars appropriated for the relief of our suffering and afflicted
people of the South.
Resolved, That in this prompt and honorable action of the
worthy and honorable Secretary of the Navy, we recognize
the promptings and generous impulse of a noble heart, and
in the sanction of this deed of charity and love, we behold
with pleasure the proper display of parental care, and on the
part of the General Government a just and honorable exhibi-
tion of National regard for the suffering children of the
Southern portion of our Union.
Resolved, That the Speaker of the House and the President,
of the Senate, cause these resolutions to be appropriately en-
