The question upon the adoption of the substitute was de-
termined in the affirmative.

On motion by Mr. Denson, it was

Ordered, That the officers of the late Senate, who have at-
tended the present session of the Senate, and assisted in its
organization, and have not been re-appointed to office, be paid
for eight days attendance, and mileage at the usual rates.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the follow-
ing message, which was read.

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 3,1868.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We have received your message informing us of the organi-
zation of your Honorable Body. The House of Delegates
has organized by the election of Hon. Wm. A. Stewart, as
Speaker, and the appointment of Milton Y. Kidd, of Cecil
County, as Chief Clerk.

We are now ready to proceed to the business of the session,
and concur with your Honorable Body in the appointment of
a joint committee to wait upon His Excellency, the Governor,
and inform him that the General Assembly is prepared to re-
ceive any communication he may be pleased to make.

We have appointed on the part of the House, Messrs.
Poteet, Fooks, and Coudy.

Chief Clerk.

The President laid before the Senate the annual report of
the State Treasurer.

[See Document A.]

Which was referred to the Committee on Finance, hereaf-
ter to be appointed.

On motion by Mr. Hyland, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of the Senate,
that Mr. Malone is detained by sickness from his seat in the
Senate.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

The Senate reconsidered the vote on the adoption of the
order in relation to the per diem of the officers of the late
Senate.

Mr. Denson then submitted the following amendment:

Strike out the words "mileage at the usual rates."

On the question being put, it was determined in the affir-
mative.

The question then recurred upon the adoption of the order
as amended, and it was determined in the affirmative.
On motion by Mr. Snyder, it was

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourn it stands ad-
journed until Monday morning at 12 o'clock.
