THURSDAY, January 23, 1868.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Hammond.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Stewart, (Speaker,) Loker, Boyer, Beck, Ham-
mond, Iglehart, Deale, Bond, of Calvert, Dalrymple?
Mitchell, Nicolai, Slingluff, Poteet, Holmes, Biddison,
Rose, Lowe, Corbin, Horsey, Percy, Stewart, of Dorchester,
Davis, of Cecil, Touchstone, Richards, Mearns, Keech, Guy,
Sudler, Legg, Holloway, Albaugh, Dutrow, Wenner, Bow-
lus, Maynard, Byers, Nelson, Vandiver, Brown, Moore,
Hubbard, Wentz, Robb, Morse, Blake, Latrobe, Smith, of
Baltimore city. Bond, of Baltimore city, Colton, Chaisty,
McElroy, Harig, Markland, Marshall, Conway, Syester,
Coudy, Herbert, Rohrer, Seibert, Riggs, Offutt, Conley,
McCulloh, Kean, Devecmon, Trimble. Hall, Jordan, Worth-
ington, Clark, Jones, Fooks, Hopkins—74.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of the Police
Commissioners of Baltimore city.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Also,

The memorial of the Maryland Institute for the promotion
of the Mechanic Arts, asking an appropriation of five thou-
sand dollars.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Jones presented the petition of sundry citizens oi
Howard county, praying the passage of an Act to continue
in force the present school system until July 15, 1868.

Also,

The petition of the public school teachers of Howard coun-
ty, praying the passage of an Act to continue in force the
present school system until July 15, 1868.

Also,

The petition of sundry citizens of Howard county, praying
the passage of an Act to continue in force the present school
system until July 15, 1868.

Which were read, and severally referred to the Committee
on Education.

Mr. Davis, of Cecil, presented the petition of Matthew C.
Pearce, Reuben D. Jamar, and 128 other citizens of Cecil
