The Secretary of the Senate returned
The bill entitled an Act to repeal an Act entitled an Act
to repeal Article 63, Code of Public General Laws, relating
to Militia, and section 652 to 770, both inclusive, of Article
4, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to Militia
in the City of Baltimore, and to re-enact the same with
amendments, and to enact the following in lieu thereof,
Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays, with proposed
amendments."
Amendments proposed:
Section 1, line 1, strike out all after the word Maryland,
and insert the following : The militia of this State shall con-
sist of all able bodied white male citizens between the ages
of 18 and 45 years, and not exempt by the laws of the
United States, except the Comptroller, the Treasurer, the
Secretary of State, Judges and Clerks of Courts of Record,
Register of Wills, Sheriffs, and Ministers of any religious
denomination.
Section 2, strike out the section.
Section 3, strike out "military" in first line and insert in
place of it, militia.
In 8th line of section 3 after "be" insert first.
Section 4, in 5th line, strike out "military" and insert in
place of it militia ; and in 6th line after "and" strike out
"the Commander-in-Chief" and insert for it: in such case
he; in the 8th line strike out "in case of such actual ser-
vice," and in 9th line strike out "such" and insert needful,
and strike out as may be necessary.
Section 5, 1st line, strike out "military" and insert mili-
tia, and the same amendment in 6th line.
