MONDAY, March 23d, 1868.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Hammond.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Stewart, (Speaker,) Loker, Coad, Hammond, Igle-
hart, Bond, of Calvert, Dalrymple, Chapman, Slingluff,
Montague, Poteet, Biddison, Corbin, Horsey, Percy, Stewart,
of Dorhester, Johnson, Mearns, Keech, Guy, Williams,
Sudler, Holloway, Bowlus, Maynard, Byers, Silver, Moore,
Wentz, Robb, Morse, Blake, Latrobe, Pentland, Bond, of
Baltimore city, Colton, Mullin, Chaisty, Markland, Mar-
shall, Conway, Coudy, Herbert, Rohrer, Seibert, Conley,
McCulloh, Kean, Trimble, Hall, Worthington, Jones, Fooks,
Hopkins—54.

Mr. Mullin presented the petition of the Carmelite Sisters
for repayment of taxes paid in error.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Coad presented the petition of H. G. S. Key, B. G.
Harris, R. Ford, and 56 other citizens of St. Mary's county,
praying the Legislature to organize efficiently and speedily
the Department of Labor and Agriculture, and endorsing
the views expressed by the Superintendent in his recent com-
munication to the General Assembly.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Agri-
culture.

Mr. Conway submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr.
Marshall was detained from his seat last, Saturday on account
of sickness in his family.

Which was adopted.
Also,

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that if Messrs.
Marshall, Conway, Hammond, Jones, Clark and Robb had
been in their seats when the vote was taken on the bill known
as the Cotton and Woolen Factory Ten Hour Bill, they
would have voted in the affirmative, and Mr. Bond, of Bal-
timore city, would have voted in the negative.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Conley submitted the following order:
