January 1, 1868.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
The Senate has organized by the election of the Hon.
Barnes Compton as President, and the appointment of
Augustus Gassaway, Esq., as Secretary. We are now ready
to proceed with the business of the session, and propose,
with the concurrence of your Honorable Body, the appoint-
ment of a joint committee of five members., to wait upon the
Governor, and inform him that the Legislature is prepared
to receive any communication lie may be pleased to make.
We have appointed on the part of the Senate, Messrs. Earle
and Walsh. By order,

Mr. Poteet submitted the following message :
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 3, 1868.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We have received your message informing us of the or-
ganization of your Honorable Body. The House of Dele-
gates has organized by the election of Hon. William A.
Stewart as Speaker, and the appointment of Milton Y. Kidd,
of Cecil county, as Chief Clerk.
We are now ready to proceed to the business of the session,
and concur with your Honorable Body in the appointment
of a joint committee to wait upon his Excellency, the Gov-
ernor, and inform him that the General Assembly is prepared
to receive any communication he may be pleased to make.
