port of indigent persons of said county, shall cease.

Aw ACT for the relief of the Sheriff of Carroll County.— 1839, ch. 117.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the sheriff of Carroll county shall be entitled to receive twenty-
five cents per day for the maintenance of every prisoner who
shall be committed to his custody upon criminal process, in
lieu of the sum now allowed by law.

Air ACT to authorize and require the Commissioners of Carroll County to
pay over to Baltimore County, certain moneys therein mentioned.

An ACT to provide for the more equal distribution among the different
Academies in Carroll County, of the State's donation for the benefit of
Academies in said County. — 1839, ch. 270.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the treasurer of the western shore of Maryland, be and
he is hereby authorized and required to pay annually to the
following academics in Carroll county, out of the state's dona-
tion for the benefit of academies in said county, in the manner
following, to wit : to the Manchester Academy, two hundred
dollars ; to the Carroll Academy, one hundred and fifty dol-
lars ; to the Uniontown Academy, one hundred and fifty dol-
lars ; to the Clover Hill Academy, one hundred dollars ; to
the Deer Park Academy, one hundred dollars ; and to the
Oakland Academy, one hundred dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the wes-
tern shore is hereby authorized and required to pay the afore-
said sums of money to the trustees of said academies respec-
tively, from time to time, or to their order, as provided for by
this act; Provided, said trustees comply with the requisitions
of the several acts of assembly, prescribing, certain duties to
the trustees of academies and colleges receiving donations
from the state, any other law to the contrary notwithstanding.

AN ACT, entitled, an Act to provide for the appointing of Commissioners
to assess and award damages to sundry Citizens of Carroll County.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly by the
petition of sundry citizens of Carroll county, that by an act of
assembly, passed at December session, eighteen hundred and
thirty-four, chapter one hundred and ninety-five, and a supple-
ment thereto, passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty- five, chapter fifty- nine, certain commissioners were
appointed to lay out and open a road from Philip Nichodemus'
mill in Frederick county, to Christian Grouess' tavern in Balti-
