more county, and to assess damages, &c.; And whereas, said road
has been laid out and opened, and many persons whose lands it
has passed through to their great injury, have not received any
compensation for damages done by the opening of said road ;
therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland
That it shall be lawful for the commissioners of tax for Carroll
county, in their discretion, to appoint on or before the first day
of July next, three disinterested persons, citizens of said
county, as commissioners, to view said road so fur as is passes
through Carroll county, and to assess and award such damages
to each and every person whose lands said road passes through,
as they may think just and right, they taking into consideration
both the advantages and the disadvantages to said persons, and
it shall be the duty of said commissioners, to make a return to
the commissioners of tax for said county, on or before the first
day of August next, the amount of money awarded to each
person as aforesaid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for the
commissioners of tax for said county, in their discretion, to levy
at their next annual levy, on the assessable property of said
county, one-half of the money awarded by the commissioners
so appointed, and pay the same over to the persons entitled to
the same, and the other half to be levied as aforesaid, at their
annual levy in eighteen hundred and forty-one, and paid over as
aforesaid.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the commissioners appointed
by virtue of this act, shall before they proceed to the discharge
of their duty, make oath or affirmation before some justice of
the peace for said county, that they will without favour or pre-
judice, faithfully discharge their duty as commissioners afore-
said, and each commissioner appointed by virtue of this act
shall be entitled to receive two dollars per day for each day's
service rendered, for five days, and no more, to be levied and
paid as other county charges are.

AN ACT for the benefit of the Crier of Carroll G'ounly Court. — 1839,
ch.311.

Be it enacted, by the General .Assembly of Maryland, That
the crier of Carroll county court shall be entitled to receive
one dollar in addition to his fees, for each day he shall attend
upon the session of laid court, and that the same be levied
upon the assessable property of said county, and paid as other
county charges.
