LAWS OF MARYLAND.— 1839.

and the said commissioners of the district shall receive no
pecuniary compensation for the discharge of the duties required
of them by (his act over and above their per diem.

Until erec-
tion or pur-
chase or
buildings,
commia-
sioners to
provide.

SEC. 21. And be it enacted, That until the erection or pur-
chase or lease of said buildings, the said commissioners are
hereby directed and required to contract for, and provide the
suitable necessary buildings for the purposes above mentioned
at or near the place selected as the seat of justice, if they can
be had at such place, and if they cannot be there procured,
then the said commissioners shall select them at such place
as they may deem best.

Coroners
to be ap-
pointed.

SEC. 22. And be it enacted, That the governor by and with
the advice and consent of the senate, shall appoint coroners for
said district as they are now appointed, for and in the counties
of this state.

Authority
to appoint
elisors.

SEC. 23. And be it enacted, That the district court of said
district, or any judge thereof, shall have the same power to
appoint elisors within said district as is now exercised in the
several counties of this state.

Deedf and
writings to
be recorded
by clerk of
district.

SEC. 24. And be it enacted, That all deeds of lands, tene-
ments and hereditaments lying in Howard district, and exe-
cuted after the appointment and qualification as such of a clerk
of Howard district court of Anne Arundel county, shall as
well as all other instruments of writing which are by law re-
quired to be recorded, be recorded by said clerk as deeds are
now recorded by the clerks of county courts, and the laws in
regard to recording and acknowledging all deeds, conveyances
or instruments of writing of every description shall apply to
Howard district, the inhabitants thereof and the clerk of the
court of said district, as though said district were a county,
and said clerk were the clerk of a county court, and either of
the judges of the court of Howard district of Anne Arundel
county shall have authority to qualify said clerk upon his
appointment.

Wills and
administra-
tion.

SEC. 25. And be it enacted, That the laws of the state in
regard to wills, the estate of deceased persons and letters testa-
mentary and of administration, after the appointment of a re-
gister of wills for said district, shall apply to said district as
though it were a county.

Officers
now acting
in district.

SEC. 26. And be it enacted, That all the officers of the
county now acting in and for so much of Anne Arundel county
as lies within Howard district, shall continue to act as they
now are acting until the appointments shall be made under
this act.

Sheriffs and
collectors
to complete

SEC. 27. And be it enacted, That the present sheriff and
collectors of Anne Arundel county, shall have full power and
authority to complete their collections within Howard district
